Report: The Chiefs and Patrick Mahomes narrowly avoided a COVID scare from a barber

Oh my …

With just days to go until Super Bowl LV in Tampa, the last thing either the Chiefs or Buccaneers want to face was a COVID-19 outbreak. On Wednesday, we learned just how close the Chiefs came to realizing a possible worst-case scenario.

Chiefs receiver Demarcus Robinson and center Daniel Kilgore were placed on the COVID-reserve list this week after getting their hair cut from a barber who tested positive for the coronavirus.

But according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the list of players and staff scheduled to get their hair cut from the barber exceeded 20 and included Patrick Mahomes. Once the barber received a positive test, the Chiefs reportedly intervened to shut the haircuts down.

Schefter went on to add that Kilgore was the player who had his haircut interrupted and landed on the COVID-reserve with the unfinished cut.

The Chiefs have yet to comment on those specific details outside of placing Robinson and Kilgore on the reserve list, but what Schefter described was beyond a close call for the Chiefs. Basically, Mahomes’ place on that schedule was the difference between him playing in Sunday’s Super Bowl and him falling on the COVID-reserve list.

You almost have to wonder why haircuts were allowed to proceed before the test results came in, but either way, let’s hope the barber makes a speedy recovery.
