There are a lot of weird phenomena on social media. Among the stranger trends in the NBA Twitter world is the love of Oklahoma City Thunder guard Lu Dort that comes from the Velveeta account.
The account, @EatLiquidGold, appreciates the hard-nosed defense of Dort just the same way Thunder fans do. It’s unclear exactly where this infatuation from the brand, headquartered in New York, comes from, but it’s no problem to those in Oklahoma City.
With All-Star voting open, Velveeta tried to get in on the action. The brand tweeted “DORT #NBAAllStar” in an attempt to make a vote for him, though it doesn’t look like it actually counts, as the NBA release said the player’s first and last name need to be included in a hashtag (in this case, #LuguentzDort).
DORT #NBAAllStar

But publicity is good nevertheless! Dort will never complain about some love from the liquid gold cheese company.
This isn’t even the first time Velveeta has tweeted about Dort or the Thunder.
ICYMI: the official Velveeta Twitter is comparing themselves to Shai and Lu Dort.
That’s it. I’m putting on a mask + gloves and going to pick up some Velveeta, Rotel, hot sausage and tortilla chips. https://t.co/0M24r32vOB pic.twitter.com/nZAexk2dhN

Velveeta actually gave some appreciation to Shai Gilgeous-Alexander as well as Dort when pressed about voting for the third-year guard by another account.
WELL YEAH BUT HE DON'T NEED OUR HELP

Someone on that Velveeta social media team clearly deserves a raise.
NBA All-Star voting opened Thursday and runs through Feb. 16. Starters will be announced Feb. 18 and reserves on Feb. 25.
