A victory over Notre Dame Friday afternoon was the sixth consecutive win of the spring season for the Tennessee men’s tennis team.
The No. 10 Volunteers shut out the Fighting Irish, 7-0, at the Goodfriend Tennis Center.
Tennessee held Notre Dame to just two set wins in nine contested matches. The victory was UT’s third shutout of the year.
With the win, the Vols improved to 6-0 this spring. The Irish dropped to 4-2 on the season.
In doubles, Giles Hussey and Mark Wallner overcame a 4-0 deficit in the first doubles set and rallied for a 6-4 victory.
The team of Martim Prata and Johannus Monday also won in doubles along with the tandem of Adam Walton and Pat Harper.
In singles, the Vols got a win from Harper, who downed Notre Dame’s Brandon Ancona, 6-3, 7-5 in his first singles match of the spring.
Monday knocked off a top-10 player as he defeated the Irish’s Richard Ciamarra, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (5). Ciamarra entered play Friday as the No. 6 singles player in the nation.
UT also got singles wins from Walton, Prata, Hussey and Luca Widenmann.
Hussey and Prata have each captured nine consecutive singles victories while Widenmann has won 15 straight matches.
