Buckle your seatbelt, Bears fans. It appears Chicago is, in fact, in the race to land Texans quarterback Deshaun Watson in what would amount to one of the biggest trades in modern NFL history this offseason.
According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Bears were one of three teams confirmed to have contacted Houston about a potential Watson trade.
Check it out:
From NFL Now: The #Texans have received plenty of calls on Deshaun Watson, and that will continue. From the #Jets to the #Bears to #Panthers, who'll make a strong push, to many others. One of the most robust trade markets we've seen. pic.twitter.com/uMpnK6iYP0

The Bears are at a major disadvantage compared to the other teams likely in the mix. They don’t have a high first-round pick this year nor do they have a young quarterback on the roster who can be thrown into a trade package. It would take a massive number of first-rounders that span several years for the Texans to even consider a Bears proposal over the likes of the Jets, Dolphins or even the Panthers.
Ryan Pace pulled a rabbit out of his general manager hat when he got a deal done for Khalil Mack back in 2018, and it’ll take another miraculous move by him this offseason to make this fantasy a reality.
