Sixers star Joel Embiid named Eastern Conference Player of the Week

Philadelphia 76ers big man Joel Embiid takes home the Eastern Conference Player of the Week award.

A brand new week in the NBA brings individual awards for the top players from the week prior. After a terrific week, star big man Joel Embiid took home the Eastern Conference Player of the Week honors.

Embiid had a historic week averaging 37.7 points and 11.7 rebounds while Philadelphia won all three games. He has scored 30 + points and 10+ rebounds in three straight games as he is doing things this franchise has not seen since the days of Wilt Chamberlain.

Embiid has done a terrific job of becoming a leader on the team. He has really taken on the challenge of putting the team on his back and put himself squarely in the MVP conversation.

Embiid is the second Sixer to win Player of the Week this season after Tobias Harris won the award on Jan. 4. The Sixers are sitting at the top of the Eastern Conference at 12-5 and they have the play of Embiid to thank.

He and the rest of the team will look to keep it going on Monday against the Detroit Pistons on the road.
