According to the Pittsburgh Steelers, they have their first official hiring of 2021. The team announced on Monday they had hired Alfredo Roberts to be their new tight ends coach.
Roberts has two decades of coaching experience in the NFL and his resume is impressive. As a player, Roberts won two national titles for the Miami Hurricanes and won two Super Bowls with the Dallas Cowboys.
The Roberts hire could have even more sweeping implications. Pittsburgh is planning to interview Los Angeles Chargers quarterbacks coach Pep Hamilton for their vacancy at offensive coordinator. Hamilton and Roberts have worked together in Los Angeles and Indianapolis. This could be a step closer to Pittsburgh getting Hamilton into the fold to run the offense.
