With the 2021 NFL draft, the Vikings are in a bit of a predicament.
Minnesota has the 14th overall pick and no second-rounder. The Vikings are pretty locked in at various premium positions, but the 14th pick is where they should probably take a player like a wide receiver or defensive end.
Bleacher Report thinks the Vikings could be on the move. The outlet listed Minnesota as a team that could trade up or down in the 2021 NFL draft. Here’s what it said about the team:
“And if the Vikings want to trade down, they’re right in the middle of Round 1, where a sliding prospect could cause another team to bite. That, along with Minnesota’s collection of later picks, could then allow the Vikings to get back into Round 2—their second-round pick was sent to Jacksonville for defensive end Yannick Ngakoue.”
The team could move up and go for a more elite prospect, but I think the more likely route is for the team to trade back. Trading back could maybe even land the team a second-round pick. It would be nice to have a top-tier wide receiver three, but I don’t really see the Vikings going for a bold pick like that at 14. If they want a guard or they want a three-technique defensive tackle, they should trade back.
