Texas’ defensive coordinator hire was a name that not many had on their radar.
Steve Sarkisian took his time and sorted through most of the southeast. Throughout the process, he was linked to names such as Will Muschamp, Barry Odom, Zach Arnett and Pete Golding. In the end, Pete Kwiatkowski from Washington was Sarkisian’s choice.
Although he is an unheard of name to most Texas fans, it was a shock to people in Seattle that Kwiatkowski would leave the program. He had been in the Pacific Northwest for his entire coaching career with Boise State, Eastern Washington, Montana State and Washington.
Sarkisian mentioned Kwiatkowski as one of the toughest defensive coordinators he has ever had to go up against. If an offensive mind such as Sarkisian respects a defensive coordinator that much, hiring him makes all the sense in the world.
