In what was a difficult season for the New England Patriots, a member of the organization shone brightly. Rookie guard Michael Onwenu earned a spot on the Pro Football Writers of America All-Rookie Team.
He was a sort of diamond in the rough for New England during the draft. Picked 182nd overall, Onwenu was drafted as a guard. He mostly played right tackle for New England, logging 927 offensive snaps.
The former Michigan product was both a good run and pass blocker. He allowed only three sacks, one quarterback hit and 10 carries on the year. With 486 snaps as a pass-blocker, those numbers are certainly impressive.
Onwenu did his job and was certainly a notch in the belt of the 2020 Patriots draft class. As New England enters an offseason with potentially large roster changes looming, Onwenu is certainly a player they can count on.
