The Tennessee men’s basketball team made a trip to Florida Tuesday night and had a game that it would like to forget.
The Volunteers had a pair of extended scoring droughts in a 75-49 Southeastern Conference loss to the Gators in Gainesville.
The Vols (10-2, 4-2 SEC) scored the first bucket of the contest and then missed their next five shots and that would be an omen of things to come.
Tennessee fell behind Florida (7-4, 3-3) 38-27 and it would only get worse for the Big Orange from there.
The Vols, who were without freshman Jaden Springer due to an injured ankle, went 17-for-58 from the floor, 12-for-25 from the free throw line and 3-for-18 from beyond the 3-point arc in the loss.
UT also committed 18 turnovers and were outrebounded 44-36 in the game.
The Gators had four players post double figures in the scoring column. Noah Locke led the way with 14 points. Tyree Appleby added 13. Tre Mann chipped in with 12 and Knoxville product and Bearden High School graduate Ques Glover finished with 10.
Tennessee’s John Fulkerson led all scorers with 15 points, but did not receive much help from his supporting cast.
Keon Johnson scored eight points. Santiago Vescovi added seven, while Josiah-Jordan James and Yves Pons had five points each.
