The Eagles seem to have their head coaching search narrowed down to a final four. We already outlined the pros and cons of hiring Josh McDaniels, Duce Staley, and Todd Bowles.
Now we look to another candidate: Joe Brady.
Pros: Since Sean McVay was hired and took the NFL by storm it’s been a growing trend to find the next young, offensive genius to lead your team. After McVay, it was Matt LaFleur. Then it was Zac Taylor. Kyle Shanahan fits the mold, too. This year it’s Joe Brady.
Brady, who will be 32 at the start of next season, broke into the league in 2017 as an offensive assistant for the Saints. In 2019 he became the passing game coordinator for the record-setting, national champion LSU Tigers. Joe Burrow threw for more than 5600 yards and an FBS record 60 touchdown passes in Brady’s offense. Brady was awarded the Broyles Award for being the best assistant coach in college football.
After his single-season performance for the Tigers, he signed on as the offensive coordinator for the Panthers. Though Christian McCaffrey hardly played this year, Brady got the most of his offensive talent otherwise: Robby Anderson had 95 catches for 1056 yards; DJ Moore hauled in 66 catches for 1193 yards and Curtis Samuel had 77 catches for 851 yards and 40 rushes for 200 yards. Running back Mike Davis had 642 yards rushing and 353 yards receiving, too.
Bottom line: Brady is an offensive innovator and could be the next best thing in terms of offense. The phrase “rather be a year early than a year late,” could ring true with this wunderkind.
