The Kansas City Chiefs are headed to the AFC Championship Game for the third straight season after holding off the Cleveland Browns in Sunday’s AFC Division Round, but the win absolutely came at a cost.
Star quarterback Patrick Mahomes suffered a concussion midway through the third quarter after coming up wobbly off a hit from Browns linebacker Mack Wilson.
In realtime, it was unclear how Mahomes suffered a concussion as it wasn’t a hit to the head. But replays did show that Mahomes’ helmet made contact with the turf. It wasn’t a dirty play from Wilson. Yet, he did feel compelled to reach out to Mahomes on Twitter and wish him the best.
This was the hit:
Oh my god. That looks awful. He looks wobbly.
Chad Henne will come in.pic.twitter.com/MiREKRTv3E

And Wilson’s postgame tweet:
Prayers to @PatrickMahomes . I pray you back next week! Go be great like you have been! 🙏🏾❤️

Despite suffering the injury, Mahomes didn’t take exception with the hit. He commented on Wilson’s tweet to let him know it was all good.
All good brother! 💪🏽 https://t.co/ORwLG6eFTV

If Mahomes is unable to clear the NFL’s concussion protocol ahead of Sunday’s game, backup Chad Henne — who came up huge in the game-icing drive — would be the starter for the AFC Championship Game against the Bills.
