Texas drops to No. 2 seed in latest Bracketology

ESPN’s Joe Lunardi has released his updated bracketology for the March Madness tournament.

As Texas continues their season, they are trending towards being one of the top seeds in the upcoming NCAA Tournament. Shaka Smart and the Longhorns haven’t been invited to the dance since the 2017-18 season. The following year, Texas won the NIT tournament and last year’s tourney was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

In Joe Lunardi’s most recent Bracketology, Smart’s squad is looking like a No. 2 seed for the tournament. They were a No. 1 seed until the last-second loss against Texas Tech. In region four, the Longhorns would be in the same bracket as Villanova, who already defeated them this season in a close matchup. Oklahoma State is listed as a No. 9 seed in the same region as the only other Big 12 team in this particular region.

Texas would play the No. 15 seed (Cleveland State) who would earn a bid as an automatic qualifier for March Madness.

Other Big 12 teams:

  • Baylor- No. 1 seed
  • Kansas- No. 3 seed
  • Texas Tech- No. 4 seed
  • West Virginia- No. 4 seed
  • Oklahoma State- No. 9 seed
  • Oklahoma– No. 11 seed (Last four in)

The Big 12 conference would have seven of their 10 teams in the tournament with only Texas Christian, Kansas State and Iowa State on the outside looking in. This proves how tough the schedule is for all Big 12 teams.

With a large portion of the Big 12 schedule still remaining for college basketball, it will be must watch television down the stretch.
