Excitement for Meyer, likely addition of Lawrence reflecting in Jags season ticket deposits

Business is booming for the Jags.

New Jacksonville Jaguars coach Urban Meyer isn’t the only one who has been busy at TIAA Bank Field since his signing. The ticket department has also been booming, and the phones have been ringing off the hook.

When Meyer signed, it not only sent the internet and social media into a frenzy, but it did so for the Jaguars fanbase, too. According to the organization, his signing led to them getting half of their current season ticket sales. It also helped push them ahead of their pace from last year by eight times.

While it’s unknown what the Jags’ figures were looking like last season with COVID-19 raging, this still is great news for the team.

Of course, a huge reason for the increase in sales is because of Meyer’s ties to the Florida Gators. While several fans weren’t necessarily happy about his departure from Gainesville, they haveclearly gotten over it and are ready to see what he can do in the NFL.

The second part of the ticket surge is because of the likely addition of Clemson star Trevor Lawrence. The Jags, who have never acquired the No. 1 overall pick, acquired it with some help from the New York Jets. That put them in position to get Lawrence, which is significant for a team that hasn’t had anything that resembles a franchise quarterback since Mark Brunell.

Heading forward, it’s certainly going to be interesting to see where ticket sales go. Of course, before we get an answer, we will have to monitor the coronavirus pandemic. However, if the vaccines on the market show promise in terms of getting people to take them and the pandemic’s numbers begin to decline, the atmosphere at TIAA Bank Field is going to be louder than ever.
