The Houston Texans continue their quest to find the right coach to lead the team into the next decade.
According to Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle, the Texans have requested an interview with Los Angeles Rams defensive coordinator Brandon Staley.
The Rams defense finished 2020 first in points allowed, first in total yards, and tied for 10th in takeaways.
The 38-year-old is a defensive coordinator for the first time in his career, and has four seasons of experience in the NFL. The Dayton and Mercyhurst product got his entry into the NFL as an outside linebackers coach for the Chicago Bears from 2017-18. In 2019, Staley held the same position with the Denver Broncos.
How Staley may have gotten on general manager Nick Caserio’s radar is his work with John Carroll University, Caserio’s alma mater. In 2013, Staley was the defensive coordinator and secondary coach. After a one-season stint with James Madison University as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach, he returned to John Carroll from 2015-16.
