Joe Burrow wouldn’t mind an LSU reunion on the Cincinnati Bengals should the team choose to take wide receiver Ja’Marr Chase in the 2021 NFL draft.
Burrow said as much Tuesday in a conference with reporters, where the idea came up because Chase continues to track like a top-10 player and the Bengals hold the fifth pick.
Burrow said he “wouldn’t mind” the reunion:
“Ja’Marr is a really good player. It’s pretty easy to throw it to him when he has five yards of separation every snap. He’s an exciting player and a great guy and a friend as well. He was fun to play with.”
Chase posted 1,780 yards and 20 touchdowns in 2019 with Burrow under center and he’s only put more film up this season that shows he’s arguably the best wideout in the 2021 class.
The Bengals have a big void to fill at the position with nobody stepping up behind Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins. Should a prospect like Chase arrive, it will only make the attack deadlier.
Any conversation about drafting a wideout has to come with the disclaimer that the team must first spend big in free agency to fix the offensive line.
But spending big on a free-agent lineman, then drafting Chase, could end up being the ideal A+ scenario for the Bengals this offseason.
