Four UFC event applications have been approved by the Nevada Athletic Commission for the month of February.
The NAC’s monthly meeting was held Wednesday via conference call with four of five commissioners present. The governing body swiftly granted approval for the UFC to hold events on Feb. 6, Feb. 13, Feb. 20, and Feb. 27 at the UFC Apex in Las Vegas.
The event license approvals don’t mean the UFC will certainly hold events at the UFC Apex, though it’s expected for the promotion to return home after a three-fight stint on “Fight Island” in Abu Dhabi to open the new year.
While the promotion hasn’t officially announced the events, various fights have surfaced for the February stretch.
- Feb. 6, a UFC Fight Night event, is expected to be headlined by heavyweight contenders Alistair Overeem and Alexander Volkov. Former UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edgar is expected to fight fellow bantamweight contender Cory Sandhagen on the undercard.
- Feb. 13, which is expected to be UFC 258, is headlined by a welterweight title fight between champion Kamaru Usman and Gilbert Burns. Former UFC middleweight champion Chris Weidman is also expected to compete on the card against Uriah Hall.
- Feb. 20, expected to be a UFC Fight Night event, currently has a headlining bout between heavyweights Curtis Blaydes and Derrick Lewis.
- Feb. 27, expected to be a UFC Fight Night event, currently has Dominick Reyes vs. Jiri Prochazka at light heavyweight as its main event.
The stretch of events, should they take place in Las Vegas, will mark the first UFC events held on American soil in 2021.
