As has been the case for the last few offseasons, the Indianapolis Colts are going to be among the leaders in salary-cap space for the 2021 offseason.

Though it isn’t clear what the cap will be set at by the league, the Colts are in a position to spend in free agency and/or lock up some of their key players like Quenton Nelson and Darius Leonard.

From Over The Cap, based on a $176 million salary cap, the Colts would be projected to have just over $58.3 million in cap space. That’s the fourth-highest figure in the league.

Only the Jaguars ($73.4 million), Jets ($70.7 million) and Patriots ($59.9 million) are projected to have more cap space than the Colts.

Again, this is all projected on a very low salary cap. Should that $176 million figure from Over The Cap hold true, that would indicate more than a $22 million drop off from 2020.

But with a potentially bigger salary cap, the Colts may have more money to work with than the roughly $60 million they are projected.

The Colts have some free agents of their own that might need another contract. It remains to be seen if quarterback Phillip Rivers wants to return. But if he does, and the Colts re-sign him, that’s likely a big chunk of the cap space right there.

Then, there are the questions revolving around wide receiver T.Y. Hilton, cornerback Xavier Rhodes and defensive end Justin Houston—to name a few.

It should be a fun offseason and if the Colts need to make moves, they will have the flexibility to do so with their projected salary cap space.
