Houston Rockets center Christian Wood told the media that he had Sunday night’s game, as well as Tuesday’s game, against Anthony Davis, circled on his calendar. And while Wood ended up with a good stat line, Davis was the dominant one and the Lakers followed his lead on Sunday night as Davis’ 28 points on nine of 12 shooting from the field and a near-perfect nine of 10 from the free-throw line pushed L.A. to a 120-102 win over the Rockets. Sunday’s win was L.A.’s fifth straight road win. Wood finished with a team-high 23 points for the Rockets while LeBron James had 18 points, seven rebounds, and seven assists in the win for the Lakers.
Davis was stellar in his return to the floor after missing Friday’s game against the Chicago Bulls and the Lakers also welcomed back Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who eased his way back into a rhythm with 22 minutes, seven points, three assists, and two steals. Talen Horton-Tucker also stole the show late in the game, scoring 17 points off the Lakers bench and getting four steals, including one on James Harden towards the end of the game that he finished with a basket on the other end.
Harden finished with 20 points and nine assists, while John Wall pitched in 14 points. The Lakers and Rockets play again on Tuesday night in Houston.
