Florida Gators athletics hit a little bit of a lull as we crossed over the threshold into the new year but UF sports is looking to pick back up over the next in the days ahead.
Tonight, the women’s basketball team will host the 14th-ranked Mississippi State Bulldogs in the O’Connell Center, with tip off scheduled for 6 p.m. EST. The game is Florida’s third in a row against a ranked Southeastern Conference opponent, having dropped their previous two — both against top-10 teams — after cruising through their non-conference schedule at the end of 2020. Sophomore guard Lavender Briggs averaged 21 points and seven rebounds over the course of the two matchups, showing why she’s one of the league’s premier scorers.

In other news, the women’s golf team released its schedule for the spring season today. The No. 8 Lady Gators will tee off on Feb. 14 at the Moon Golf Invitational in Melbourne, Florida. Head coach Emily Glaser noted that “the schedule will help us in reaching our goals — to improve as a team each week and be the most competitive team we can become postseason.”
Finally, the men’s and women’s tennis teams announced their fan attendance policies for the upcoming season.
Florida tennis will follow COVID-19 safety protocols established by UF Health, campus leadership, the SEC Medical Guidance Task Force and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Consistent with those guidelines, Florida tennis will maximize fan seating while maintaining proper physical distance.
