Miami Dolphins sign 12 to futures contracts

The Miami Dolphins are among the 18 teams to have flipped the switch and engaged in offseason mode. There will be no playoffs more Super Bowl runs or Lombardi Trophies once again this year for the Dolphins. And with the Dolphins conducting their exit interviews this week and beginning to turn their eyes inward to their roster, the team has acted to add a number of young, unproven players to their offseason roster courtesy of futures contracts.

The Dolphins announced yesterday that they’d agreed to futures deals with each of the following 12 talents:

  • DE Nick Coe
  • SAF Brian Cole
  • CB Javaris Davis
  • CB Tino Ellis
  • IOL Tyler Gauthier
  • OT Jonathan Hubbard
  • LB Kylan Johnson
  • TE Chris Myarick
  • OL Durval Queiroz Neto
  • DE Tyshun Render
  • QB Reid Sinnett
  • LS Rex Sunahara

The highlights from this group include Sinnett, who served as Miami’s backup quarterback in Week 17 with Ryan Fitzpatrick unavailable due to COVID-19; and Myarick, who was also up on the active roster for brief stretches of the end of Miami’s season due to injuries.

None of Miami’s signees yesterday are proven players at the NFL level — and each should be considered on the chopping block at the first moment’s notice of when the Dolphins have the ability to add talent. But cuts won’t be necessary until the Dolphins find themselves up against the roster limit; and Miami has plenty of wiggle room on that front. Each of the Dolphins signed yesterday, barring any off the field troubles, should be able to go through this winter and spring calling themselves a Miami Dolphin.
