Kyler Murray not expected to need surgery on injured ankle

Kliff Kingsbury said Murray was limping around on Monday but should fully recover.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback Kyler Murray suffered an ankle injury that head coach Kliff Kingsbury described as “pretty significant” after the game on Sunday. Murray was able to reenter the game in the fourth quarter but he was clearly less than 100%.

It appeared to be a pretty bad high ankle sprain.

It can be the sort of injury that requires surgery to repair.

It doesn’t appear that will be the case for Murray this offseason, although Murray clearly was still feeling the effects of the injury on the morning after the game.

“It doesn’t appear that he’ll need surgery,” Kingsbury told reporters on Monday in his final press conference of the season. “He was limping around today when I saw him in the building, so I definitely know that it was affecting him yesterday. Hopefully he’ll heal up quickly and be feeling better soon.”

Murray wasn’t worried after Sunday’s game when the Cardinals were eliminated from postseason contention.

“I don’t have anything to look forward to as far as moving around on it, so I’ll be fine,” he said.

Murray will now get the offseason to rest. Hopefully, if the offseason schedule looks more like years past, then he will likely be ready to go for the offseason program.
