LSU reportedly meeting with Panthers QB coach Jake Peetz, assistant DJ Mangas

LSU is set to meet with Panthers quarterbacks coach Jake Peetz and offensive assistant DJ Mangas this week.

LSU will meet with Carolina Panthers quarterbacks coach Jake Peetz and offensive assistant DJ Mangas this week, Pete Thamel of Yahoo Sports reported Monday.

The Tigers are targeting Peetz to fill the void at offensive coordinator, and for Mangas, who was with LSU in 2019 as an offensive analyst, to potentially join as the passing game coordinator.

Peetz and Mangas both worked under Joe Brady — LSU’s former passing game coordinator — in Carolina.

Peetz — who has spent time with the Jacksonville Jaguars, Washington Redskins and Oakland Raiders in the past — served as the Panthers running backs coach in 2019.

He was named the quarterbacks coach ahead of the 2020 season. Peetz was a large factor in Christian McCaffrey’s success, when the rusher recorded 1,387 rushing yards and 19 total touchdowns.

Peetz is set to leave tonight “for a meeting with LSU that will stretch into tomorrow,” according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Now that Steve Ensminger is moving from offensive coordinator to an analyst role for LSU, it’s a good move on Ed Orgeron’s part to go for coaches connected to Brady after the historical level of success of the 2019 season.
