QB Deshaun Watson hasn’t let Texans’ losing season affect his approach

The Houston Texans had a dismal 4-12 season, but quarterback Deshaun Watson has not let it affect his approach to the game.

Deshaun Watson is a winner.

However, he will be pegged with the Houston Texans’ 4-12 record for all-time as he was the starting quarterback for all 16 games in the disastrous 2020 season.

Even though Watson has completed his first full season as a loser in his college and pro career, the three-time Pro Bowler has approached every game with a winning attitude.

“Nothing changed for me,” Watson said after the Texans’ 41-38 season finale loss to the Tennessee Titans Sunday evening at NRG Stadium. “I just continue to grow, and it just showed the passion and the energy and just the love of the game, the love of the relationships, the love of the preparation that I bring each and every day towards this game. And that’s what it’s all about for me is really just making other people around me better.”

Watson went 28-of-39 for 365 yards, three touchdowns, and an interception in the loss. The former 2017 first-round pick appreciates being able to help younger and developing receivers such as Chad Hansen, Keke Coutee, Steven Mitchell, and even tight end Kahale Warring learn how to play at a high level when called upon.

Said Watson: “Because of course I’m going to remember all the wins and championships and things like that and the records, but the players and the opportunity to help people get better and make this as a living is definitely one thing that I cherish at the top of my priority list as I continue to grow in my profession. Like a guy like Chad, and a guy like Keke, and a guy like Kahale and Stevie Mitchell, guys that haven’t got the most of their opportunities or haven’t gotten too many opportunities and making the most of their opportunities this year.

“I just appreciate all those guys, and it’s been fun.”

Watson and the Texans are hopeful there will be more fun on the football field in the fall of 2021.
