The Indianapolis Colts signed offensive tackle Jared Veldheer to the practice squad and released tight end Andrew Vollert from the practice squad, the team announced Thursday.
Veldheer visited the Colts earlier in the week as they try to sift through their offensive tackle situation. The Colts did get Braden Smith back from the reserve/COVID-19 list but they will be without left tackle Anthony Castonzo for the remainder of the season.
Castonzo suffered an ankle injury last week and underwent surgery to correct it.
Veldheer will likely compete for the starting left tackle spot with Chaz Green and Will Holden, the latter of which will be out on Sunday due to an ankle injury of his own.
The Colts need to win and get some help from other teams in order to make the playoffs, and they are hoping to survive without their starting left tackle.
