John Wolford will take over as the Rams’ starting quarterback this week for the season finale against Arizona, which will not only be his first NFL start, but the first snaps he’ll ever take on offense.
He’s a relative unknown, even to some casual Rams fans. But with Wolford in line to start for L.A., interest in the backup quarterback is at an all-time high. Recognizing fans’ thirst for John Wolford content, the Rams shared highlights of him from the team’s scrimmage this summer.
It includes Sean McVay’s analysis of the young quarterback, and twice he compared Wolford to Doug Flutie.
“He’s a little Doug Flutie, man!” McVay said.
“Dude, Wolford is ballin’, bro,” he said at another point in the video.
"John Wolford, wow. That's impressive."

Obviously, it was only a scrimmage, but this was against a great Rams defense. It showcased Wolford’s elusiveness and mobility, highlighting his ability to escape the pocket and make plays with his legs – something that’s lacking from Jared Goff’s game.
Win or lose on Sunday, it’ll be fun to see what Wolford can do in his first NFL action.
