Every year the Pittsburgh chapter of the Pro Football Writers Association hand out The Chief Award to one member of the Pittsburgh Steelers. This year’s honoree is quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.
What is The Chief Award you ask? Here’s what it’s all about straight from the release.
‘The Chief’ Award, which was established in honor of Steelers’ founder, Arthur J. Rooney, Sr., is presented annually to a member of the Steelers’ organization that best exemplifies the spirit of cooperation with the media that he embodied. This is the second time Roethlisberger won the award, previously doing so in 2010.
Roethlisberger has stepped up big this season and addressed the problems with this team during their down stretch. And even when the reason the team has struggled as been him, Roethlisberger hasn’t shied away from criticism.
