Kyrie Irving stats: Irving repeats feat only he and Vince Carter accomplished for Nets

Kyrie Irving went off in the fourth quarter of the Brooklyn Nets’ Wednesday night win over the Atlanta Hawks.

Last season, Kyrie Irving started his Nets career off by scoring 25-plus points in each of Brooklyn’s first four games of the 2019-20 season. Now finally playing with Kevin Durant for the Nets, Irving is off to a similar start in 2020-21.

Brooklyn’s point guard led the Nets in scoring against the Golden State Warriors (26 points) and Boston Celtics (37) and has finished second to only Kevin Durant in his last two performances, finishing with 25 points against both the Charlotte Hornets and Atlanta Hawks.

However, on Wednesday, Irving had to overcome a very slow start to reach the quarter-century mark in Brooklyn’s 145-141 win.

After scoring eight points through the first three quarters and missing all of his first seven 3-point attempts, Irving went off for 17 points on 7 of 11 shooting (3-for-4 from deep) in the fourth. He also finished the game with six assists and two steals.

Irving now has a chance to become the only other Nets player to start the year scoring 25-plus points in each of his first five games of a season after coming up short of the mark by one game last year.

Vince Carter is the only Nets player to have log five-plus, logging six consecutive games with 25-plus points in 2006-2007.
