Grizzlies at Celtics: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks

Prediction

Celtics 122, Grizzlies 107

Money line (ML)

PASS ON THE MONEY LINE because Boston should be a top-4 seed in the Eastern Conference and needs to handle business against teams as injury-depleted as the Grizzlies but nothing in the NBA is a big enough lock to lay this much money on the Celtics (-240) to win outright.

Against the spread (ATS)

The Grizzlies beat the Brooklyn Nets 116-111 in overtime Dec. 28 as 1.5-point road favorites, which was a result of Brooklyn stars Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving missing the game for rest.

While Memphis is no longer winless, the Grizz did lose second-year phenom Morant in the second quarter after he sprained his left ankle in the win over Brooklyn. It was announced earlier this week Morant will miss 3-5 weeks.

Boston split a back-to-back with the Indiana Pacers by beating them 116-111 Tuesday as 1.5-point road underdogs. The Celtics outscored the Pacers 33-17 in the fourth quarter and were led by Jayson Tatum‘s game-high 27 points on 9-for-17 shooting. He added 11 rebounds, 4 assists and 3 steals.

The Celtics beat the brakes off of the Grizzlies in both regular-season meetings last year: 122-107 in the Orlando bubble (Aug. 11) and 119-95 Jan. 22.

I don’t see how Wednesday’s game plays out much differently. This isn’t a midseason back-to-back situation for the Celtics and at the moment there hasn’t been an announcement they were sitting any players.

Can Morant’s replacement, PG Tyus Jones, initiate any of the Grizzlies’ offense with PG Marcus Smart checking him? I feel good about Tatum and Brown’s matchups against SG Grayson Allen and SF Dillon Brooks both of whom are negative in defensive box plus/minus (DBPM) for their careers.

GIMME CELTICS -6.5 (+100) for 1 unit.

Over/Under (O/U)

The total is a STAY AWAY for me with a slight lean on the Over 219.5 (-110). The Over has cashed in 56.5% of Celtics games in Boston as a favorite since 2018 but the Grizzlies are 12-15 O/U as road dogs since the beginning of last season.
