Lady Vols’ senior basketball player Rennia Davis was named Southeastern Conference Player of the Week recently by both the league office and College Sports Madness.
Davis, a shooting guard and small forward, captured the honor after breaking out of an early-season offensive slump and scoring 19 points and grabbing 19 rebounds in Tennessee’s 66-58 upset victory over No. 15 Indiana in Bloomington.
She also grabbed a career-high 15 rebounds against the Hoosiers, who are the preseason favorite to win the Big Ten.
Davis followed that effort up with a solid performance against UNC Greensboro on Dec. 20 at Thompson-Boling Arena.
She scored nine points and pulled down six rebounds against the Spartans, while playing just 15 minutes.
Davis averaged a double-double in the Lady Vols’ two wins heading into the Christmas break. She averaged 14.0 points and 10.5 rebounds against Indiana and UNC Greensboro.
