Darrell Henderson Jr. going on IR but ‘there’s a possibility’ Cam Akers will play vs. Cardinals

The Rams will be shorthanded on offense against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday afternoon.

The Los Angeles Rams were dealt three huge blows on offense in the last two weeks, losing key starters to injury as the season winds to a close. Cam Akers suffered a high ankle sprain against the Jets in Week 16 and finished the game, but he missed Sunday’s loss to the Seahawks due to the injury.

Darrell Henderson Jr. suffered a high ankle sprain of his own, and he’ll be sidelined indefinitely. Sean McVay said Monday that Henderson will be placed on injured reserve, which will force him to miss the final game of the regular season.

On the bright side, “there’s a possibility” Akers will be able to play against the Cardinals on Sunday, McVay said, though his status will be monitored throughout the week.

All of this is in addition to Jared Goff undergoing surgery on his thumb, which will force him to miss at least Week 17. There’s hope he could play if the Rams make the postseason, but that depends on how his thumb is feeling.

With Henderson out and Akers questionable, the Rams could be forced to turn to Malcolm Brown and Xavier Jones in the season finale against Arizona.
