When Lipscomb University’s women’s basketball team makes a visit to Thompson-Boling Arena to take on the Lady Vols Monday night, it will be a homecoming for a former Knoxville area high school star with deep roots at the University of Tennessee.
Sophomorre guard Casey Collier will come home to play for the Bison against the Lady Vols.
Tipoff is slated for 7 p.m. EST.
Collier was a star at Webb School of Knoxville. With the Lady Spartans, she was coached by her mother, Shelley Sexton Collier, a former Tennessee guard, who won a national championship on Rocky Top in 1987.
Casey’s father, Robby, was a graduate assistant at UT under Johnny Majors. He was on Majors’ staff when the Vols downed Miami in the 1986 Sugar Bowl.
Shelley has led the Lady Spartans to 10 Division II-A state championships, guiding Webb to six state titles.
During her time with the Lady Spartans, Casey won a pair of state championships.
She was also a two-time district and regional most valuable player and state MVP, helping the Lady Spartans win four district titles and three region championships.
She also ran track and was a state champion in the 4×100 relay and a runner-up in the 4×400 relay.
As a freshman at Lipscomb last season, Casey averaged 10 points and three assists per game and was a two-time Atlantic Sun Freshman of the Week.
