Kevin Durant, Nets pushing Joe Harris to shoot more

Joe Harris scored 10 points in Brooklyn’s 2020-21 season opener, but don’t be surprised if his production increases moving forward.

One of Joe Harris’ two turnovers in Brooklyn’s season-opening 125-99 win over the Golden State Warriors was the result of the Nets sharpshooter passing up on a 3-point opportunity near the corner to try and hit a lightly covered DeAndre Jordan in the paint. After the ball got away and Brooklyn went back on defense, Kevin Durant was caught on camera encouraging Harris to take the shot next time. But, Durant isn’t the only one trying to push the career 42.6% 3-point shooter.

“I think, kind of across the board, everybody sort of holds me accountable,” Harris said on a Zoom call with reports Thursday when asked who encourages him to have a quick trigger from deep. “The other night, Kev — who has gotten on me a couple of times about letting it go — DJ [DeAndre Jordan], Kai [Kyrie Irving], Spence [Dinwiddie]. You kinda go across the board, everybody is sort of telling you just to let it fly when you got a room-and-rhythm look.”

Ever since he joined the Nets, Harris has seen his 3-point attempts per game average increase year-over-year. If he’s going to set a new career-high in 2020-21, Harris will have to average at least six 3-point attempts a night.
