Texas has one more game left this season as they’ll be facing Colorado in the Valero Alamo Bowl. However, Longhorns Wire staff decided to look ahead to the 2021 season. In particular, the 2021 position outlook and battles to look forward to this offseason into August.
The caveat here is that this could look completely different with the transfer portal, the remainder of the 2021 recruiting cycle and the unknown future of the coaching staff. We will only factor in the known aspects of this roster. The players who are currently on the roster, the players expected to join from this class and the presumption that Tom Herman and the staff all return in 2021.
With Herman returning, you will likely see fewer position battles than what should take place. In the 2020 college football season, he was forced to play someone like Bijan Robinson at running back. The top recruit from the 2020 class was the clear No. 1 back on the roster but Herman went with Roschon Johnson and Keaontay Ingram because it was comfortable for him. It wasn’t until Ingram’s fumbles, injuries, and the injury to Johnson that forced his hand. Robinson should have been the guy from the jump and we saw that player down the stretch, following the Red River Shootout.
