The Jacksonville Jaguars signed two-time Pro Bowl punter Dustin Colquitt from the Tampa Bay Bucs’ practice squad on Wednesday. The move comes as the Jags are without a starting punter for Sunday’s game against Chicago as Logan Cooke was placed on the team’s Reserve/ COVID-19 list Monday.

Colquitt, 38, has been punting for 16 seasons as he was drafted in the third round of the 2005 NFL Draft by the Kansas City Chiefs. He was released by them in April of this year and spent time with the Pittsburgh Steelers and the Bucs before the Jags snagged him.
So far in 2020, Colquitt has taken the field for four games with Pittsburgh, registering 20 punts for 861 yards, good for a 43.1-yard average. His longest punt of the year was 59 yards.
As for Cooke, he missed the Jags’ trip to Baltimore and was a late add to the injury report with an illness. That put them in a predicament where kicker Aldrick Rosas had to punt against the Ravens. He registered three punts for 36.7 yards on the day.
The Jags also signed punter Cameron Nizialek to their practice squad earlier this week when they placed Cooke on the Reserve/ COVID-19 list. However, with Colquitt previously being on the Bucs’ practice squad, the Jags won’t have to wait for him to go through COVID-19 testing, which means Nizialek is the backup plan for the Jags.
