Bowden was currently serving as a graduate assistant at Clemson for the past two seasons after serving as head coach at Akron from 2012-18 where he led the Zips to two bowl games.
At Auburn from 1993-98, Bowden famously helped Auburn go undefeated in his first year but the program was on probation due to violations committed during the Pat Dye Era. He won his first 20 games with the Tigers and helped take Auburn to its first SEC Championship Game in 1997. After a 1-5 start to the 1998 season, Bowden was let go.
