Tulane vs. Nevada: Three things to know
- The Green Wave have posted a 6-8 SU record in 14 all-time bowl games, although they have enjoyed plenty of success lately. Tulane has won four of its past five bowl appearances, including last season’s 30-13 win over Southern Miss at the Armed Forces Bowl in Fort Worth, Texas.
- Nevada will play on the “Smurf Turf” in Boise for the second straight season, and it’s hoping for better success than last year. Nevada was dumped 30-21 by Ohio, snapping a two-game bowl win streak. The Wolf Pack haven’t had good luck in this stadium. They lost to Miami in 2006 when the game was called the MPC Computers Bowl, and they lost to Maryland in 2008 when it was called the Humanitarian Bowl.
- Tulane is 6-1 ATS across the past seven games overall, and is 13-3 ATS in the previous 16 as a favorite. Nevada is 5-0 ATS in the past five as an underdog, though, while going 9-4 ATS in the past 13 overall. Nevada is also 4-1-1 ATS in its past six bowl showings.

Tulane vs. Nevada: Odds, betting lines, predictions and picks
Prediction
Nevada 31, Tulane 27
Money line (ML)
NEVADA (+125) is finally going to end its bowl streak of futility at Albertsons Stadium. A big reason for Nevada’s success in this one will be their ability to pass, as QB Carson Strong is one of the top quarterbacks in the Mountain West Conference. Tulane’s pass defense allowed 279.4 passing yards per game, just 115th in the nation.
Against the spread (ATS)
NEVADA +3 (-110) is a good play if you would like a little bit of wiggle room. Five of Nevada’s past seven bowl appearances have been one-score games, so it isn’t a bad play. Still, I like the money line play much better, and it’s a great value at plus-money. Taking Nevada would be a bit against the grain as the favorite has cashed in each of the past three installments of this bowl game.
Over/Under (O/U)
OVER 56.5 (-105) is the lean here. We have seen the Over cash in three of the past four Famous Idaho Potato Bowl games, and five of the past seven. If you go all the way back to the first bowl game in 1997 in this stadium, the Over is 14-8-1. Whether it’s the crisp mountain air and/or high elevation, we tend to see high scores in most of these matchups. That could also be a big factor for Tulane, which hails from New Orleans, at or below sea level.
