In what was the biggest upset of the NFL season, the Los Angeles Rams were stunned by the New York Jets at home, 23-20. The Rams, winners of their last two games, fell to the 0-13 Jets at SoFi Stadium, just their second home loss of the year.
Sean McVay consistently said his team wasn’t going to overlook the Jets, and while it can’t be definitively said that this was the case, the Rams didn’t come to play against New York and were flat-out embarrassed.
McVay didn’t sugarcoat things afterward, either. He was blunt and honest, saying he’s sick to his stomach about it. But as you’d expect, he made sure to point out that this loss will only deflate the Rams if they allow it to.
“It’s extremely disappointing, but you’re not going to get any excuses from me, and I’ve got to do a better job of getting this team ready to go. … This loss will demoralize us only as much as we allow it to,” he said. “It’s gonna be embarrassing. Sick to your stomach about it. But we do have two games left and we’ve got to find a way to rebound and respond this week as we get ready for the Seahawks. This was very humbling and it’s going to be humbling, but we’re going to move forward.”
The Rams are still in a fine spot playoff-wise. If they win their next two games, they’ll clinch the NFC West. They’re not yet in the playoffs, but it’ll take a small miracle for L.A. to miss the postseason.
It’s a gut-wrenching loss, but not one that will derail the Rams’ season.
