Drew Brees didn’t exactly start off hot against the Kansas City Chiefs. The New Orleans Saints quarterback didn’t complete a pass in the first quarter, going 0-for-5 for the first time in his career in black and gold with an unlucky interception thrown in. But he finally found a good look with wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders matched up one-on-one against Chiefs safety Tyrann Mathieu, and No. 9 didn’t hesitate to pull the trigger.
They connected on a 51-yard completion to set up a Taysom Hill touchdown run, with Brees putting a season-high 37 air yards on the throw to hit Sanders in stride to do the rest. Hill’s first run appeared to break the end zone plane as he spun out of bounds, but the officials didn’t recognize it, costing the Saints a coach’s challenge along the way. So Hill tried again by bowling over Chiefs linebacker Willie Gay to get points on the board. See it for yourself:
