“He’s probably in better shape than everybody on both teams,” said coach Doc Rivers on Friday. “That’s just Dwight. He runs before every practice. I’ve been really impressed. I’ve heard about his work ethic. I’ve never seen it and now coaching him, you see it. He’s such a great example for everyone else. Not just the bigs, but everybody on our team.”
Rivers and Howard had their own battles back in the day while Rivers was coaching the Boston Celtics and Howard was the star of the Orlando Magic. They have mutual respect for each other and what they have both been able to accomplish as they get set to begin this season in Philadelphia.
“He’s also holding us accountable to all the information that he’s given us,” Howard added. “We’re professional athletes and it’s all about respect. We have to respect each other’s time because it’s very valuable.”
The Sixers now prepare for their season opener on Wednesday against the Washington Wizards. Howard will have a hand in whatever the Sixers do on he floor when the season begins. [lawrence-related id=40400,40406,40397]
