Nets vs. Celtics Recap: Kyrie Irving, Brooklyn get better of Boston in preseason meeting

The Brooklyn Nets came to play against the Boston Celtics on Friday, and Kyrie Irving’s old team never stood a chance.

It may have only been a preseason game, but the Nets let everyone who didn’t already believe in them know on Friday: Brooklyn is no joke. In his first game back in Boston since he left the Celtics for the Nets, Kyrie Irving scored 17 points on 7-or-15 shooting (3-for-6 from 3-point territory), grabbed seven boards, dished five assists and registered two steals over 28 minutes in Brooklyn’s 113-89 win.

While Irving did a bit of everything — and the big story coming in was his return to Boston — Kevin Durant, to no one’s surprise, stole the show. Brooklyn’s star forward led the team with 25 points on 9-for-16 shooting (2-for-5 from deep) and had six rebounds in 27 minutes of work, after having played 24 minutes in Sunday’s win over the Washington Wizards.

Joe Harris had a strong shooting night, scoring 14 points while draining 4 of his 7 3-point attempts (5-for-10 overall).

Caris LeVert finished third in scoring for the Nets after missing their only other preseason game. His 18 points off the bench came on 6-for-13 shooting (2-for-3 from long-range). LeVert logged 21 minutes, while Jarrett Allen played 17 minutes off the bench and finished with a team-high 11 rebounds to go with his nine points.
