At long last, Michigan football has a defensive tackle committed — and the second in 2022.
The Wolverines have struggled to find a player at the position the past several recruiting cycles, and though the 2021 class has yet to be wrapped up with another signing period coming up in February, the maize and blue are onto 2022. They already have one defensive tackle committed in four-star Alex VanSumeren — brother of current linebacker Ben VanSumeren. Bnd according to 247Sports’ Allen Trieu, Michigan football secured another, getting a commitment from River Rouge (MI) three-star DT Davonte Miles.
Michigan has received their second class of 2022 commitment from inside the state and fourth overall after River Rouge defensive lineman Davonte Miles gave the Wolverines a verbal on Friday afternoon.
Miles (6-5, 275 pounds) chooses Michigan over offers from Michigan State, Iowa State, Kentucky, Minnesota, Pittsburgh, West Virginia and more.
“My mom really wanted me to be home,” Miles explained, “but other people who were helping me in the process didn’t care where I would pick and said they would support me wherever I picked, but I chose Michigan. They have a great program. I love Coach Nua, he loves me, I love Michigan and Coach Harbaugh. Coach Nua has always been honest with me, told me the truth and I like people like that. They kept it 100 with me and and were truthful with me so I feel they’ll be with me through thick and thin.”
Miles has 16 reported offers, which includes Indiana, Iowa State, Kentucky, Michigan State, Syracuse and West Virginia. He’s rated the No. 671 player in the country, according to the 247Sports Composite, the 48th-best defensive tackle and No. 23 player in the state of Michigan in 2022.
He is the Wolverines’ fourth commitment in the 2022 recruiting cycle.
