Kenny Atkinson isn’t the only former member of the Brooklyn Nets organization who went west to work on the Los Angeles Clippers coaching staff under Ty Lue. Former Long Island Nets head coach Shaun Fein was also among those to join the Clippers’ refurbished staff after spending the last four years in Brooklyn’s organization. Fein is now a player development coach in Los Angeles.
Roughly a month after it was announced Fein was joining Atkinson and Lue in Los Angeles, Long Island has named his replacement. Bret Brielmaier is the new head coach of Brooklyn’s G League affiliate. Entering his fifth year with the team — serving as an assistant coach in the previous four — Brielmaier becomes the fourth head coach in Long Island history.
“Bret has been an integral part of the Nets family for the past four seasons, and we are thrilled that he’ll be coaching the Long Island Nets,” Long Island Nets general manager Matt Riccardi said. “His experience and vision are a perfect fit for leading the development of emerging players on Long Island, and we are eager to see the growth he inspires in our next generation of Nets talent.”
