Last week against the Jets was a breakout game for Raiders defensive end Clelin Ferrell. It was also his return after missing two weeks after testing positive for COVID-19.
That breakout for Ferrell included putting up two sacks — his first of the season — both the strip variety. Raiders head coach Jon Gruden was looking for a repeat performance against the Colts in a game that had considerable playoff implications. That follow-up would last seven snaps before Ferrell was lost to a shoulder injury.
While Ferrell was on the reserve/COVID-19 list, it was Carl Nassib who got the start. Upon his return, Gruden opted to make Nassib inactive. That was the case again this week despite Nassib being healthy, so someone else would have to step up with Ferrell down.
The recipient of those snaps was Arden Key who played 37 snaps (61%) in relief of Ferrell. Also seeing a significant jump in snaps was Vic Beasley who the team elevated from the practice squad for the second straight week. Beasley saw 24 snaps (39%).
