WATCH: Chiefs DB Tyrann Mathieu records sixth interception of the season

Mathieu has four picks for the Chiefs in the last three games.

Kansas City Chiefs DB Tyrann Mathieu wasn’t a sure thing to play on Sunday, entering the game questionable with a hip injury. He was made active, however, even notching the start for the defense. It’s a good thing he did too because he recorded one of the biggest plays in the first half.

On third-and-7 with the chance to get off of the field, Mathieu did the team one better and notched his sixth interception of the season. On the ensuing drive, Patrick Mahomes took the offense 72 yards down the field hitting Travis Kelce on a six-yard pass for a touchdown that would give the Chiefs the lead.

Check out Mathieu’s pick:

Mathieu now has four interceptions in the last three games. He has shown a knack for being in the right place at the right time on deflected passes. Rashad Fenton knocked the ball up and he was ready and waiting to intercept the pass and return it for five yards. He was even good for some jawing afterward with the player who tackled him.

Mathieu is gaining ground on Patriots CB J.C. Jackson (7) and Dolphins CB Xavien Howard (8) for the NFL’s lead in interceptions. His six interceptions on the season already lead the Chiefs’ defense.
