The Dallas Cowboys will not be making a head coaching change heading into 2021, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport. The league insider has reported that head coach Mike McCarthy is in line to get a second season to try and fix the mess that has transpired in the Cowboys falling to 3-9 in a year when many thought them to be Super Bowl contenders.

The same cannot be said for all members of his staff, however. The team has had accountability and effort issues all season, including anonymous players questioning the coaching staff’s ability to do their jobs. Several veterans were jettisoned midseason, namely free agent signings Everson Griffen (trade), Dontari Poe (release) and cornerback Daryl Worley (release). However, the defense has remained bad. They are on pace to allow over 2,600 rushing yards which will be the worst in team and league history. Defensive coordinator Mike Nolan and members of his staff are considered the likeliest to be under scrutiny.

Meanwhile, heading into the game, the Cowboys are going to be playing some youngsters as DL Ron’Dell Carter and CB Chris Westry are about to get their first action of their careers. The 2020 and 2019 UDFAs, respectively, are in need for various reasons, but Carter is active ahead of Eli Ankou, who the club traded a future 7th-round pick for with Houston.

The Cowboys are hurting in the secondary, where 4 of 5 projected starters (Trevon Diggs, Anthony Brown, Chidobe Awuzie and Donovan Wilson) will miss the contest.

Dallas will start Rashard Robinson and Saivion Smith at cornerback against Brandon Allen and the Cincinnati wide receiver corps.

A team that can’t stop the run and has no cornerbacks. Fun times.
