LSU sophomore cornerback Cordale Flott was ejected from Saturday night’s game at Florida for a targeting penalty.
Flott’s targeting penalty was called on the field and upheld by the SEC’s video replay official.
Flotts delivered the ejection-worthy blow to Florida tight end Keon Zipperer (star tight end Kyle Pitts is not playing for the Gators) in the first quarter of the game following a completed pass from Kyle Trask.
Upon looking at the replay, it was pretty easy to see why the targeting penalty was not only called, but upheld.
Flott will miss the remainder of the game against the Gators, but he will be eligible to return for LSU’s next game. LSU is scheduled to play Ole Miss next weekend to close out the regular season. LSU self-imposed a one-year bowl ban this week, which means next week’s game will be the final game of the 2020 season for the Tigers.
The ejection of Flott leaves LSU’s secondary running about as thin as it can possibly get. Eli Ricks and Raydarious Jones, both freshmen, were listed as Flott’s backups on this week’s depth chart. Making matters more complicated for LSU is Ricks was injured on the same play that saw Flotts ejected.
LSU was already digging deep into the reserves with the unexpected absence of Derek Stingley Jr.
