Raiders’ free safety Jeff Heath was already ruled out for Sunday’s game against the Colts. He suffered a concussion against the Jets last week. It looks like the team expects his concussion to be serious enough to have him out multiple weeks because Saturday Heath was officially placed on injured reserve.
Heath has played well this season for the Raiders, leading the team with three interceptions despite starting just four of the team’s 12 games.
With the roster spot, the team finally decided to make things official with defensive lineman Chris Smith. The veteran had been called up from the practice squad five times this season and had played well in those snaps.
Last week, the Raiders placed defensive tackle Maliek Collins on injured reserve, leading to a need for depth anyway.
The team also announced they have activated defensive end Vic Beasley from the practice squad for the second straight week. They had signed the former All-Pro pass rusher on November 23.
