Packers promote rookie TE to roster, elevate pair from practice squad for Week 14

The Packers made several roster moves before Sunday’s trip to play the Lions in Week 14.

The Green Bay Packers added some roster help ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the Detroit Lions in Week 14.

The team promoted rookie tight end Dominique Dafney from the practice squad to the 53-man roster and elevated guard Ben Braden and receiver Juwann Winfree from the practice squad for gameday.

Dafney, a rookie from Indiana State, will help replace tight end Jace Sternberger, who is out Sunday with a concussion. He was elevated from the practice squad to the gameday roster last week. The Packers played him six snaps on offense and another five on special teams against the Philadelphia Eagles.

A fullback/tight end hybrid, Dafney can handle many of the responsibilities required of the move tight end in Matt LaFleur’s offense. Two similar players, Josiah Deguara and John Lovett, are on injured reserve, and now Sternberger is hurt.

Braden adds depth along the offensive line, while Winfree’s elevation suggests the Packers could be without Equanimeous St. Brown (concussion) or Malik Taylor (hamstring) on Sunday.

The Packers also signed tight end Isaac Nauta to the practice squad, replacing Dafney.
