Some states plowed through the pandemic and allowed high school football to be played while others did not.
Illinois was one of those states and as hopeful, as some are that a spring season is able to be had there is certainly no guarantee to that happening.
Justin Walters is a Notre Dame commitment in it’s 2021 recruiting class and hails from Bolingbrook, Illinois and will not be playing high school football this spring, instead choosing to enroll in college early.
“It’s pretty sad, to be honest,” he added. “When my team was practicing this fall, I was out there with him but not actually participating because I’m not going to be there [in the spring].” – Justin Walters to Mike Singer of BGI
Singer’s piece also notes Walters plans to enroll at Notre Dame in early February.
Walters is one of 24 current commitments in the 2021 class that is large but still might not be quite complete.
It started with the pandemic in the spring but it only continues. Whether a high school athlete is going on to play a sport in college or not, it’s a tough way to end their high school years without being able to play a sport that they have clearly enjoyed for so long.
